SYNOPSIS

My mother always used to say the phrase "Keep this to yourself". She would say it to explain that something should not be talked about outside the house or outside the family.

I remember many gestures, from family or school authority, to extinguish desire. Gestures to keep silent. Gestures not to say, to keep quiet, to repress. Gestures that, in one way or another, continued the repression of the dictatorship.

Then, on 31 May 2021, I see the news in the newspaper. The door of the school I went to for 12 years, the cases of abuse from the 60's until today. If I was there, did I experience it too? What memory is there in my body of those years? What has been erased?

Quizá siempre llega el momento en que una ciudad podrida, una sociedad podrida, se enfrenta a su verdad. Siempre llega el momento en que ya no se puede mirar a otra parte. En que alguien pregunta con claridad, ¿qué mundo nos dieron y qué mundo estamos dejando?, ¿qué herencia insoportable nos estamos pasando desde hace cuánto? Lo que cargo un día ya no lo voy a poder cargar más. Lo que cargo un día va a caer sobre mí. Lo que oculto un día no lo voy a poder ocultar.
Por eso hablo, por eso existe esta obra. Esto, finalmente, saldrá de aquí.

Pablo Fidalgo (Vigo, 1984). . Ha vivido en Madrid, Lisboa, Roma, Palermo y Gijón.
Fundó y dirigió durante seis años el extinto festival Escenas do cambio, en Santiago de Compostela. Con la editorial Pre-textos ha publicado La educación física, Mis padres: Romeo y Julieta y Esto temía, esto deseaba.
En teatro ha estrenado O estado salvaxe, Habrás de ir a la guerra que empieza hoy, Daniel Faria, Anarquismos, Qualcosa nascerà da noi. Premio Injuve de teatro 2008 y Premio Injuve de poesía 2012. Accésit del Premio Adonais 2018. Becario de la Academia de España en Roma 2018-2019.

His latest play is El libro de Sicilia (Centro Dramático Nacional, Madrid, 2021). His latest published book is El perro en la puerta de la casa (Lilliputienses, 2021).
